Nichelle A. Mitchem became Executive Director of
United Community Ministries (UCM) this past December, succeeding Katherine
Morrison, Interim Executive Director. Nichelle was chosen by the Board of
Directors from a pool of extremely qualified candidates. She was selected for
her “passion, experience and sector knowledge,” says Gigi Hyland, President of
UCM Board of Directors.
In her first month at UCM, Nichelle has been busy talking with staff and community members in order to expand and improve UCM’s work in the community. We at UCM look forward to her leadership; and we are happy to introduce her to the Mount Vernon community. 5 Things to Know About Nichelle: 1. She has more than 20 years experience in the nonprofit sector, specifically with organizations that provide support for impoverished neighborhoods in New York City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. 2. She is a community leader, having served on four different Boards of Directors, including her current seat at Innovative Solutions to Disadvantage and Disability. 3. She is dedicated to helping vulnerable populations. Nichelle began her career providing legal services and information to indigent clients. She went on to work with a variety of organizations that empower and support people living in poverty, such as A Better Philadelphia. 4. She is respected in her field. Nichelle has spoken at regional and national events on many topics of family welfare. She has also published research in periodicals such as BIFOCAL and AGING Magazine. 5. She is eager to work with UCM, “I very much look forward to working shoulder to shoulder with UCM’s highly committed Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, funders and its community partners to continue to improve the quality of life for persons in need in our Mount Vernon Community,” says Nichelle. |
